Rocks & Fossils
In-Class Field Trips for Grade Three Students
This program rocks!
Working in groups, students will explore Alberta’s rich fossil and dinosaur history. They will learn about rocks, minerals, gems and soil found on Earth’s surface. The students will rotate through five stations involving detailed investigations in sorting, classification and testing of samples. Through observation and classification, the students will be able to recognize differences between sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks, and discover the many ways rocks and minerals are used in our everyday life. They will take part in a screening/sifting activity, where the students get to screen a scoop of rocks, and keep the polished stone which they manage to sift out!
